The Philippines: the Most Beautiful Places is a photographic tour around this stunningly beautiful Southeast Asian archipelago. Both written and photographed by Nigel, he takes the reader on a journey to many of the country’s most beautiful locations, both famous and almost unknown.

Starting in Luzon, the Philippines’ largest and most populous island, the tour starts at the beaches of Pagudpud in the far north, before continuing with such places as the old Spanish town at Vigan, and the surfing centre of San Juan, on the northwest coast.

The Luzon chapter also takes in the mountains of the northern Cordillera, covering such attractions as the city of Baguio and the mountain village of Sagada.

Moving further south, the tour brings us to the island provinces of Mindoro and Palawan, often thought of as the Philippines’ wild frontier. Here we are treated to the beaches and diving centres of Puerto Galera. There is also Palawan’s Bacuit Bay, the Subterranean River National Park, and the lovely Honda Bay.

The Visayas – the country’s fractured mass of islands that make up the central south – receive major coverage. Here we see some beautiful photography of Boracay, the Philippines’ leading beach resort, as well as Cebu’s northern beach islands. On the island of Negros we get to see the mountain and dolphin-watching attractions around Dumaguete, plus the laid-back island of Siquijor. One of the main features is about the island province of Bohol, where beaches and rainforest are covered.

The final part of the book covers just two parts of Mindanao, taking in the two wonderful islands of Siargao and Camiguin. The former is today the Philippines’ leading surfing venue, while the latter is a place to escape the rushing world and just kick back.

This book is simply a wonderful collection of Nigel’s stunning Philippines photography, always valuable as a memento of this beautiful country.
